CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
We increase your environment’s security by identifying vulnerabilities and proposing solutions.
We are specialists in CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design). Before your project is built, we can work alone, or with other consultants with Law Enforcement experience, to enhance your design to make your environment less of a target. For existing buildings, we can perform an analysis to prioritize deficiencies and help you procure construction services to remedy them.
CPTED is a critical design discipline. Criminals continue to target the most vulnerable among us. Schools, malls, hospitals….they are all being targeted. We as design experts can implement solutions that make it much harder for those criminals to target our people and our products within the built environment.
We know how to ask the right questions to understand what is causing, or has the potential to cause, criminal activity. Through survey and analysis, we can capture data that can serve toward design solutions.
The general concepts of CPTED we explore can be categorized into:
- Natural Surveillance
- Territorial Reinforcement
- Access Control
- Maintenance and Management
“The CPTED concept, is the proper design and effective use of the built environment and can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and the incidence of crime, and to an improvement in the quality of life.”
– Dr. C. Ray Jeffery [Criminologist who coined the term CPTED in 1971]
